Why Software Demands a Number When None Exists
Hospital software like Epic MyChart and AthenaHealth uses universal form templates where the Group Number is flagged with a mandatory red asterisk (*). This validation was created for commercial employer health insurance, where millions of workers share an employer group pool.
Because Medicare Advantage plans are individual contracts, typing "NONE" or "N/A" bypasses the software block without corrupting your billing file, allowing the hospital billing team to verify your active coverage using your unique Member ID.
